In the latest legal developments between Disney and FL governor Ron DeSantis, Disney has filed a lawsuit against DeSantis, the DeSantis-appointed board, and Florida Department of Economic Opportunity acting secretary Meredith Ivey. Disney seeks an injunction against the board’s move to nullify the agreement Disney reached with the previous board before it was dissolved that effectively gave Disney control over the special taxing district it has occupied for over 50 years.
Disney claims the lawsuit is its response to DeSantis’ government retaliation which “now threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights.”
It’s especially telling that Disney’s legal team filed this lawsuit in federal court just minutes after the DeSantis board voted to invalidate the agreement between Disney and the previous board. They were prepared for this outcome.
DeSantis has been criticized by his fellow Republicans for what they’re calling his “anti-business” behaviour against Disney.
