The Writers Guild of America (“WGA”) is a labour union representing thousands of creators who write scripted series, features, news programs, and other content. WGA is currently in active negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (“AMPTP”) for a new contract, and a strike could occur if a new deal isn’t reached by May 1st. The WGA is currently seeking a contract with fair and equitable wages and working conditions. During a strike, members of WGA will not be able to write, revise, pitch, or discuss future projects with companies that are part of AMPTP.
It will be interesting to see if this WGA and AMPTP can reach a conclusion by May 1. Otherwise, this would be a massive disruption to the film and TV industry.
