If you’re a Snapchat user, you’ve probably encountered their new feature, “My AI,” & if you’re like anyone else, you probably have mixed feelings about it. Well, you’re not alone.
Powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, My AI is pinned at the top of users’ chat feeds. Only paid subscribers can remove it (sparking many users’ criticism of its prominent placement on the social media app).
This new feature has also sparked online criticism and confusion regarding the chatbot’s access to private information, particularly location data. In response, Snap has published a blog post explaining how location data is used in My AI and reassuring users that the chatbot does not collect new location information without consent. Snap emphasizes privacy as a core value and aims to minimize data collection while providing transparency to its community regarding data usage across its products.
