You have probably all heard about Fox’s defamation lawsuit by now.
In short, Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox News for $1.6 billion claiming that Fox News repeatedly promoted that voting machines were rigged against Trump denying him reelection. The judge presiding the case already found that these allegations about the election being rigged were not true. However, Dominion still had to prove that Fox promoted these false allegations knowingly.
The parties managed to settle the case for $787,5 million earlier this week, and Fox News avoids putting Rupert Murdoch and other central hosts on the stand.
The Dominion attorney said “The truth matters. Lies have concequences.”. The question is if this settlement really holds Fox News accountable for all the damages and distrust their campaigns caused.
Fox News still faces a similar defamation lawsuit worth $2.7 billion. It will be interesting to see if they manage to agree on a settlement with Smartmatic too.
