Snapchat hops on the AI Train

This article discusses Snapchat’s new AI-powered chatbot called “My AI” (that Snapchat+ subscribers can get for $3.99/month). This is just another example of how ChatGPT is entering the commercial world. I found it interesting/kind of creepy how the CEO frames the new feature as just like any other friend/family member that you can speak to. Further, they had a disclaimer in the announcement post warning that the bot can make convincing but inaccurate statements. One concern I have is whether this is something they should roll out so quickly considering the dangers of spreading misinformation, especially when the younger population uses Snapchat and might not be able to discern falsehoods as well as others. They do mention that the model is trained to not discuss sex, violence, swearing, or political opinions, which I think speaks to who their target audience is (younger people). I would love to hear other people’s thoughts on this!
